The Belvidere Park District runs a special summer recreation camping program for special needs teens, giving them the opportunity to experience the outdoors while learning and enjoying the basics of camping, fishing and boating.
In Illinois, there is a bipartisan legislative Sportsman’s Caucus that raises money to help fund outdoor sportsman’s programs.
“After hearing about this program at the Belvidere Park District, I knew this was a perfect fit and a well deserving program for this grant,” said State Senator Dave Syverson (R-Rockford).
Syverson, who is a member of the Sportsman Caucus, submitted the grant request on behalf of the Belvidere Park District. In turn, the District was approved to receive a $500 grant.
In addition to the $500 grant from the Sportsman Caucus, Senator Syverson personally matched the grant and donated $500 himself to the program.
“This is just one of many great programs run at the Belvidere Park District,” said Syverson. “So this is an easy program to get behind and personally support.”
