The cost to Illinois taxpayers to fund the free healthcare for undocumented adults hits $1 billion dollars for this fiscal year. Add to that the costs for healthcare for children to age 19, housing, education, SNAP food benefits, and more.
These costs are increasing daily as five to 10 busloads per week are still arriving in Illinois, a state that remains a Sanctuary State. The Sanctuary State status is a result of Governor JB Pritzker and the Democratic Legislature who continue to support this status.
