Syverson celebrates 17th anniversary of Cheap Trick Day in Illinois

SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Dave Syverson (R-Cherry Valley) is reminding Illinoisans to take a moment on April 1 to celebrate the 17th anniversary of Cheap Trick Day in Illinois.

Cheap Trick is an American rock band from Rockford formed in 1973 with the current band lineup including frontman Robin Zander, Rick Nielsen, Daxx Nielsen, and Tom Petersson.

“We all have a favorite band that we remember from our youth, and Illinois is fortunate to claim Cheap Trick as one of its own for more than 50 years,” Syverson said. “On April 1, 2007, I had the privilege to sponsor legislation creating Cheap Trick Day to be honored every April 1 in Illinois.”

Since the creation of Cheap Trick Day in Illinois, the band has gone on to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016, released three more albums, and are still touring around the world.

“Cheap Trick has had a huge impact on music for 51 years,” Syverson said. “We are proud of all they have accomplished, happy they are still entertaining in venues around the world, and pleased they still call Illinois home.”
