Syverson Encourages Illinoisans to Celebrate Cheap Trick Day

CHERRY VALLEY – State Senator Dave Syverson (R-Cherry Valley) is encouraging Illinois residents to take time on April 1 to celebrate the 19th anniversary of Cheap Trick Day across the state.

Formed in Rockford in 1973, Cheap Trick has become one of Illinois’ most iconic rock bands. The current group lineup includes frontman Robin Zander, guitarist Rick Nielsen, bassist Tom Petersson, and drummer Daxx Nielsen.

“Illinois is proud to call Cheap Trick one of our own,” Senator Syverson said. “They’ve remained a lasting presence in rock music for decades, and April 1 is a great opportunity to recognize their impact.”

Syverson sponsored the legislation that established Cheap Trick Day, Senate Resolution 255, which has been observed annually on April 1 since 2007. Since then, the band has continued to build on its legacy, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016, while still touring and releasing new music.

“More than five decades later, Cheap Trick continues to connect with fans around the world,” Senator Syverson said. “We’re proud of their success and grateful they still call Illinois home.”
