State Senator Dave Syverson (R-Rockford) released the following statement regarding the inauguration of the 100th General Assembly:
“I am deeply honored by the fact that the people of Northern Illinois once again selected me to represent them in Springfield. This privilege is something I have never taken lightly. While we may not have agreed on every issue over the years, I hope you know that my intent has always been to make our area a better place to live, work, play, and raise our families. I’m proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish so far, putting Rockford back on the map, bringing back home a record amount of our tax dollars (which for years we were short changed) and passing legislation to improve the quality of lives for our families, seniors, the disabled and job creators.
“During my tenure I’ve worked with five governors, three Senate Presidents, and one House Speaker. I believe much of the success that we have achieved are due to developing friendships and working with members on both sides of the aisle to find areas of agreement without giving up our core principles.
“We are now facing some of the most difficult challenges our state has ever faced but I am confident that if our leaders will put politics aside and do what’s best for the entire state, we can turn Illinois around and our best days can still be ahead of us.”
