CHERRY VALLEY – Caring communities in the 35th District have provided more than 10,000 Valentines for senior citizens and residents of long-term care facilities across the region, as part of State Sen. Dave Syverson’s third annual Valentines for Seniors Card Drive.
“We asked our communities to once again take part in this heart-warming project and WOW … did they deliver! Our schools, civic organizations, churches, and other groups made more than 10,000 Valentines this year,” said Syverson (R-Cherry Valley). “My office staff and I were fortunate to deliver these beautiful cards on your behalf to local and regional long-term care facilities, and your Valentines meant so much to the residents.”
In 2022, local communities contributed more than 5,000 Valentines through Sen. Syverson’s Valentines for Seniors Card Drive, In 2021, the Valentines for Seniors Card Drive was noted on social media by celebrity businesswoman Martha Stewart, which resulted in hundreds of Valentines being donated to the Card Drive from around the country.
In January, Syverson asked community members, churches, schools, businesses, and other groups to once more participate by dropping off or mailing Valentine’s Day cards to his legislative offices in Rockford, Sycamore and Hampshire.
Once the cards were collected and sorted, they were delivered to residents of local and regional nursing homes, rehab facilities and long-term care facilities.
