State Senator Dave Syverson (R-Cherry Valley) joined local leaders and volunteers to help break ground on a new Habitat for Humanity home in Boone County.
“This is more than just building a house. It’s about giving a family stability, hope, and a fresh start,” said Sen. Syverson. “I’m proud to be part of a project that brings people together to make a lasting impact in our community.”
The future homeowners are the Franco Gonzalez family — Luisa and her three children — who have lived in Belvidere for the past 18 years. Like all Habitat families, they will contribute 300 hours of “sweat equity” toward the construction of their home.
Over the coming months, volunteers will work side-by-side with the family to lay the foundation, raise the walls, and complete the build, which is expected to be finished before the end of the year. Senator Syverson and his staff will also pitch in with tasks like interior painting.
